Mountain View Inn is located on 3+ acres just across the road from the Mill Brook. In the winter cross-country skiers can access the Catamount Trail which parallels the road and takes them toward Mad River Glen, 3 miles, or Fred can point them to his favorite trail on Bragg Hill behind the inn which ends at The Battlegroundjust up the roadafter passing (downhill) through Phen Basin. We are 3 miles from Sugarbush's Mount Ellen (north) and about 6 miles from Lincoln Peak (south).
Other seasons of the year guests can enjoy our porch swing or the hammock out back in the hackmatack tree.
We are just over three miles from where the Long Trail crosses the Appalachian Gap on Rt. 17. This is the perfect access for hikers to go either north or south on the trail. For those people who only have a short time to hike, Molly Stark's Balcony, reached by going north on the Long Trail from Appalachian Gap, affords a beautiful view overlooking the beaver pond and the valley to the west.
Many hikers who stay at the inn enjoy a day hike up Vermont's spectacular Camel's Hump to the north or Mount Abraham to the South. A shortened version of the Mount Abe hike is the hike to Sunset Rock which takes you part way up the mountain and gives a beautiful view, especially at sunset! There are trails from the Inn that connect with the Long Trail each side of "App Gap," making us a favorite stop for long distance hikers and on guided tours, Country Inns Along the Trail. Both of these mountains have spectacular panoramic 360 degree views from the top.
